Registry

The Kenya REDD+ Registry is a national transactional registry established to manage and track REDD+ emission reductions throughout their entire lifecycle. The registry serves as the official platform for the registration of REDD+ programmes and projects, recording verified emission reductions, and facilitating carbon unit transactions, including the issuance, transfer, acquisition, retirement, cancellation, and tracking of REDD+ emission reduction units. It provides a transparent and secure system for preventing double counting, maintaining accurate ownership records, and ensuring the environmental integrity of REDD+ transactions.

The REDD+ Registry is designed to interface with the National Carbon Registry, which is housed by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and serves as Kenya's central registry for all carbon market activities under the Climate Change Act and the Carbon Markets Regulations. Together, the two registries ensure coordinated accounting, transparency, and traceability of carbon credits while supporting Kenya's obligations under the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement and facilitating participation in international carbon markets.
